<br />
Today's post is inspired by a bride-to-be, who writes:<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">"I'm getting married in June and I want to wear cowboy boots with my dress. My colors are white and Fuschia pink. It's a pretty good size dress-more modern. Do you have any ideas? I would like black and fuchsia. Where do I find??"</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
After a big Congratulations, and some questions about price range, this is what we had to offer (considering we don't know much about the bride's personal style)....</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These first ones are a bit on the wild side as far as wedding attire goes, but hey-some gals like to make a statement with their boots-after all, they are hidden most of the time ;-)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, if you are into the current trend of wings, crosses, and bling...these might be perfect for you (black, pink, and point toe-and they are by Corral...who make a darn good boot):</div>

</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #333333;"><span style="line-height: 14px;">Have you noticed that I'm not sending many black options? I tend to steer away from black-especially for a wedding. I think because when I think of weddings, I think of soft, feminine, and girly. If it's not just the right black, it can come across as a little "hard" if you know what I mean ;-) I don't want to crush your idea of wearing black boots, because I do think it can be done...just a little tricky! Whatever the color, I would definitely stick to a point or snip toe boot...they are just a little more "fancy" than the square toe that are in style right now :-)</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #333333;"><span style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #333333;"><span style="line-height: 14px;">So, how to pull off the black boot? Two things that will help-I don't think you have to have both, but one would definitely help...The first is to opt for a a tall shaft (Liberty makes a nice tall shaft boot)...that is if you are a tall gal. I stand not too much taller than the 5' mark, so the tall shaft doesn't work for me, but if you can rock it, it would help give a little more sophisticated look to a black boot. To stay in your price range, I found these Corrals that have a slightly taller shaft than the average boot, and as an added bonus-they can be found at Buckle (which means you get an excuse to go shop the entire beautiful store):</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #333333;"><span style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #333333;"><span style="line-height: 14px;">*I think the white delicate stitching makes these look a little softer too :-)</span></span></div>
<ul class="uiList body contentListWidth _4kg" style="background-color: white; list-style-type: none; margin: 2px 0px 0px; padding: 0px;">
<li style="border-width: 0px; color: #333333; line-height: 14px;"><div class="content noh direction_ltr" id="mid.1386431561684:63fca4075eaa342307" style="direction: ltr; overflow: hidden; padding: 2px 0px 1px; text-align: left; width: 350px; word-wrap: break-word;">

</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li style="border-width: 0px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The second way to make a black boot work is to opt for a distressed black leather...again, softens the hard look of black. I found these next boots, and must say-for a girl who isn't a "black boot lover", I think I need to add them to my collection! I absolutely love that they have a little bling by way of the sequins inlay! These might be a great choice for you...</div>

I had the privilege of getting to know her when she came to visit me a couple of years ago. And while you wont actually be able to meet her at the TFD Handpicked Holiday Sale (this sweet girl calls Tennessee home), she has sent a package of her bold and unique hand towels! They will be up for grabs Saturday, December 7 from 4-8.</div>

<br />Since Christy can't be here, let me tell you a little about her and her <strike>baby</strike> business (she has three adorable kiddos that might not appreciate that reference). The Strawberry patch started as what she calls a, "glorified garage sale"out of her home...well, her garage to be specific. She would deck it out, roll up the door, and let the colorful goods spill out into the driveway for shoppers delight. After many sales, she began to outgrow the space and has since moved her show to her family's farm. It is beautiful, and perfect, I hope that one day I will get the chance to fly down and experience one first hand.</div>

I know, "When does this woman ever sleep?"</div>

All I can say is that she is a woman following her passions and dreams, and when you have dialed in on these things, when you know who you are and what you want, no loss of sleep is going to stand in the way. </div>

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: monospace, 'Courier New'; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">Jamie graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science in Apparel Design. After working briefly in the design industry (specifically bridal), she got married and decided to start a family. As a result, she chose to take a more "family friendly" job at West Linn High School. After 7 years of working with high school students and taking side custom design jobs & alterations, she came to the conclusion that she needed to stay home with her 3 young boys. She's been home with her boys (who are currently 6, 5, & 3) now for the past year and a half and has finally come full circle, and back to her love for design. She started making items for her children, herself, & gifts for family. As word spread that she was creating again she started producing some of her favorite and most requested items and selling them on-line. She creates all of her own patterns and sews/constructs each one of her items. She is all about unique handmade items that are functional, fun, & fashionable!</span><br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.thefarriersdaughter.com/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AMU7lERff04/UnC0slyoqXI/AAAAAAAACeA/B58xw8VpDtg/s200/logo4site_edited-1.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
A while ago, my husband starting taking an interest in real
estate investing. Being the reader he is, he read anything he could get his
hands on that had to do with this new found love. Through his journey of educating
himself on the topic he has come across many motivational books. Luckily for
me, he filters out the good from the bad and recommends the ones he thinks I
would enjoy or could benefit from in one way or another. The underlying theme
in the authors of these books is that they either are, or have studied in depth,
successful people. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
All of the books have had great messages and sound advice,
but the one thing important thing I’ve noticed to be a reoccurring theme is
this: </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Concentrated effort + Time=Success </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
(Funny that I write that as a math problem when I despise
the subject-but I digress.)</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Seems so simple right? Only when I sat back and actually thought
about myself critically, I couldn’t honestly say that I have concentrated on
anything (relating to business), and I certainly haven’t done anything for an
extended period of time. To put it simply, I am not focused. I have a creative
mind that likes to wander from one thing to the next. You should see me clean
house. I will start to clean the bathroom, then two minutes later I’m changing
the litter in the cat box. Noooo, I know what you are thinking- I don’t have
Attention Deficit Disorder. There is always a perfectly good explanation on how
I get from point A to point B. For example, in the earlier mentioned situation,
I most likely went to take the bathroom trash out to the garbage bin, passing
the litter box on the way, and catching a whiff of unpleasant odor. And hey,
guess what? The stinky litter goes to the very same garbage bin as the bathroom
trash, so might as well just make one trip! You see what I mean? Same applies
to business. Only it’s worse because I don’t really enjoy cleaning house. With
The Farrier’s Daughter I am dealing with passion, and as we all know, when
passion occurs it’s sometimes hard to know where to draw the line ;-) </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Since 2006, I have been what I like to call “exploring” my
creative side and the industries that support it. In one way, the timing has
been perfect. Being a stay-at-home mom has given me the opportunity to try
different things without the pressure of making a certain amount of money-or
any money for that matter (Insert shout out to my husband-Thank you Nick). On
the other hand, being a stay-at-home mom has changed the way I look at things. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
For a while I tried to do shows. Gathering and refinishing
or re purposing vintage goods was a blast for me! I absolutely loved staging my
booth for the shows that I did. However, the cons soon outweighed the pros. As
a vendor, I wanted to give my business everything I had. The problem was that I
only had so much to give and it didn’t seem possible to give 100% to being a
stay-at-home mom, a supportive wife, and a vendor all at the same time. Add to
that my lack of storage, and an extra set of hands via business partner, and I
quickly realized that that particular arena was not for me. I had the
concentrated effort, but it couldn’t go on for long.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
After many long talks with my husband, I decided to focus on
handmade goods-<a href="http://www.thefarriersdaughter.com/products-page" target="_blank">Cowgirl Canteens</a> specifically, that were easier to store, haul,
and set up if I did decide to do a few shows every once in a while. It wasn’t
long after this decision that I realized having just one product was going to
be a challenge for this artistic brain. I put off going retail for the longest
time, then finally pulled the trigger. With surprisingly great success right
out of the gate, I should have been on a roll. Unfortunately, I am the world’s
worst salesman. Remember when I said I despise math? Well, it’s safe to say I
hate selling even more. Don’t get me wrong, I like to have things sell-I just don’t
like the process of selling them. While creating a product takes me to my happy
place…selling that same product could possibly be the equivalent of hell. Even
in the most laid back of situations regarding repping my own product, my heart
beats so hard that I swear people can see it trying to jump out of my chest. My
hands shake, and my head spins. It is terrible! So, it’s safe to say that trying
to drive my wholesale accounts was not something that was going to get my “concentrated
effort”. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Meanwhile, some friends of mine asked me to start doing some
visual merchandising for them in the form of a HUGE window display at their new
salon. Another great way for me to use my creative juices, and while I love
doing the job for them, I’m not certain I have the means to turn it into “my job”
... brings me back to that lack of storage issue again. As a result of the
window display, lots of people get to see my style, which has opened even more
doors. Interior design, business design-all design, but looking through my
directional glasses, I have completely lost focus. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
So what is the one thing that has stayed consistent through
all of this? My desire to grow a business that allows me to use my creativity,
my dream of creating a brand that is well-known, understood and successful, and
my desire to be able to do those things while being one kick ass wife and mama!
So moving forward, I have decided to focus on online sales and events where I
get to mingle with people (because that, in my opinion is the only way to
sell). I have decided to use social media and this blog as a tool to spread the
word about The Farrier’s Daughter. I hope that people are able to get a little
glimpse into what we stand for, the uniqueness and quality of the goods we
offer….which means I have also decided to start expanding. Yes, finally
expanding! For so long, I have heard people say, “I love your style, but I don’t
drink.”, or “These [Cowgirl Canteens] are adorable, but I don’t carry a flask,
I prefer beer.” I have been listening; your voices have been heard. I’ve been
planning and dreaming and scheming about new items for so long, and the time
has come to go for it! I hope you join us as The Farrier’s Daughter gives a
concentrated effort, because this my friends, is going to last for a long time.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
When we first brought Polly home last spring, the girls got
started riding bareback right away. No pad, no bridle, just good old-fashioned
hold onto the mane, find your balance, and enjoy the ride while Mom leads the
way, kind of riding. It was good for them. I could see them getting stronger
and more confident with every ride. I vividly remember the day my oldest
daughter (Raegen) rode down the path telling me all about how she planned to
someday be a trick-rider. She had just seen another one of those <i>little girl and her pony</i> movies and I
could tell she had borrowed a few ideas. As she dreamed out loud, I heard all
about her plans to stand on Polly’s back, ride her into the water and dive off
of her four legged friend. From where she sat, she couldn’t see my smile. But as
her energetic words filled the air, I couldn’t help but recall a few of my own
childhood cowgirl dreams. It was as if a mini-me sat atop the pony that day. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Time passed and the girls continued to become better riders.
I decided it was time to get them in a saddle. A phone call away, sat the
saddle that I learned to ride on as a young girl. My father was kind enough to
not only save the saddle, but pass it on to his granddaughters. After a trip to
the saddlery shop, it was good as new. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Before too long, the no-hands trick was
getting old, and Raegen was ready to move on. She begged for a faster pace.
With her cowgirl hat on straight, hands on the horn, and a determined look in
her eye, she told me she was ready to trot. So trot we did. Only, a few strides
in, Raegen’s hat flew off of her head, giving Polly a bit of a startle. She quickly
picked up speed, and then threw on the brakes all in what seemed like the blink
of an eye. Meanwhile, Raegen went flying forward, landing on the ground. She
was fine. No broken bones, just a couple of bumps and a mighty big scare for a
little girl. She stood, dusted off and cried. I held her, and as I did, my
childhood came flashing back into my head again. I remembered my first horse
mishap. I remembered crying, never wanting to ride even a carousel again, and I
remember my Dad making me get back in the saddle. I squeezed her tight, wiped
her tears, and when she was settled down, I told her that she had to get back
on. She didn't want to at first, but with a little convincing, she threw her
leg over the saddle and was riding again. I was so proud of my little girl in
that moment. She was brave and strong, and she learned an invaluable lesson
that she will hold onto her entire life. How do I know this? Because, I learned
the same lesson, the same way, some 25 years ago.</div>

It dawned on me the other day, that it may actually <i>never</i> "feel finished". I've realized in my 32 years that by the time I finally get around to making a room feel complete, I have moved on to yet another style, color scheme, or big idea. So, from start to finish, our semi-complete, Heart of the Home...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wxq1H242DXg/UlTqjg6TN2I/AAAAAAAACcY/VIZ9rN6RdA8/s1600/DSC_0530.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wxq1H242DXg/UlTqjg6TN2I/AAAAAAAACcY/VIZ9rN6RdA8/s320/DSC_0530.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
Our Kitchen:</h3>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i9l5PnHA4Dg/UlTqDFCfV3I/AAAAAAAACcA/WqBocbq1uxY/s1600/before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="136" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i9l5PnHA4Dg/UlTqDFCfV3I/AAAAAAAACcA/WqBocbq1uxY/s640/before.jpg" width="640" /></a></h3>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Believe it or not, this is what the kitchen looked like when we decided to purchase this 100+ year old house. Not only was it the ugliest kitchen I'd ever seen, not one thing made a lick of sense. We started by happily gutting the entire space.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7HYUJm_Nqic/UlTqDJi_b1I/AAAAAAAACb8/ebCTwj1Iea0/s1600/during.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="136" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7HYUJm_Nqic/UlTqDJi_b1I/AAAAAAAACb8/ebCTwj1Iea0/s640/during.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
It had a chimney that had been dry-walled over, a window that looked into the garage, YES you read that right, a window overlooking an enclosed garage! It had cabinets of all sorts in all of the wrong places, and an oven that stuck right out in the middle of the walkway. But, somehow, through all of this, I had a vision.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Out with the wall dividing the Kitchen and Dining Room, out with the funky garage-view window, and out with the ugly oak cabinets! My goal was to transform what once resembled a cave into a bright and airy kitchen with as much natural light as possible.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HAs80uwDTM8/UlTq8FBc-eI/AAAAAAAACc0/XpSsTIE4xdU/s1600/DSC_1370.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HAs80uwDTM8/UlTq8FBc-eI/AAAAAAAACc0/XpSsTIE4xdU/s320/DSC_1370.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the view from the Kitchen looking toward the Dining Room and Living Room.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Where once stood a dividing wall, is now an open space with breakfast bar.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The only thing that remained in the Kitchen was the original wood flooring. A little (okay a lot) of TLC, and the old floors are new again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wdSr9o1I8cE/UlTqjAvA9oI/AAAAAAAACcU/oPquMdtniaY/s1600/DSC_0532.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wdSr9o1I8cE/UlTqjAvA9oI/AAAAAAAACcU/oPquMdtniaY/s320/DSC_0532.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wanted to have a piece of cabinetry that felt like a built-in hutch, so the section next to the refrigerator has pretty feet (unlike the rest of the lower cabinets). The uppers have corbels mounted to the bottom that match the open shelves on the opposite wall, and some of my favorite knobs from Anthropologie. Another little surprise is the expanded metal we used in the cabinet doors. It ties in with the pantry door, and our staircase. After cutting to size, we washed it with a push broom, soap and water, then spray primed and painted it black.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n2j6omfhPfQ/UlTq9Ce_QOI/AAAAAAAACc8/1P-uZWOH2jo/s1600/DSC_1358.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n2j6omfhPfQ/UlTq9Ce_QOI/AAAAAAAACc8/1P-uZWOH2jo/s320/DSC_1358.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a view from the Dining Room looking in.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The wood slab that makes up the breakfast bar is from my late Grandfather, and is supported by some antique architectural corbels I picked up at a local sale.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The open shelves were a risky choice in a small Kitchen, but have really helped in making the space seem larger and brighter.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cDqyVAnVgUQ/UlTqzqF9WUI/AAAAAAAACck/frn8MyrHeow/s1600/DSC_0536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cDqyVAnVgUQ/UlTqzqF9WUI/AAAAAAAACck/frn8MyrHeow/s320/DSC_0536.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pendant light kits and old rusty Crawfish traps were an inexpensive lighting option for overhead, and cast the most beautiful pattern on the ceiling above. They also lend a nice contrast to the crystal Dining Room chandelier.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cDqyVAnVgUQ/UlTqzqF9WUI/AAAAAAAACck/frn8MyrHeow/s1600/DSC_0536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YEb0jNrUTXo/UlTqhQshIvI/AAAAAAAACcM/hIMjezZCBx4/s1600/DSC_0025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YEb0jNrUTXo/UlTqhQshIvI/AAAAAAAACcM/hIMjezZCBx4/s320/DSC_0025.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
While yes, I have a business that specializes in <a href="http://www.thefarriersdaughter.com/" target="_blank">Cowgirl Canteens</a> (fancy hip flasks for women), my husband and I are actually fans of microbrew beer. So, this old bottle opener on the end of the breakfast bar gets it's fair share of use.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n4SPPfmlDVE/UlTq_-SXjMI/AAAAAAAACdE/gTqWwWsYzsY/s1600/DSC_1387.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n4SPPfmlDVE/UlTq_-SXjMI/AAAAAAAACdE/gTqWwWsYzsY/s320/DSC_1387.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One smart splurge in the Kitchen was the apron front sink. I love it!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made up for that splurge by installing all of the white, subway, backsplash tile by myself.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One thing I've had to get used to is not having a window above the sink.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Instead, I took an old antique frame, gave it a face lift and turned it into a cork board for all of the pretty pictures my girls make for me, any important reminders, and a plethora of other random things.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vbL683aPJVY/UlTq1PPxFKI/AAAAAAAACcs/aqTWHyFy4j8/s1600/DSC_0543.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vbL683aPJVY/UlTq1PPxFKI/AAAAAAAACcs/aqTWHyFy4j8/s320/DSC_0543.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To the right of the refrigerator is a mirror/apron holder, and to the right of that is the pantry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In my opinion, a pantry is a must if you are going to opt for the open shelves.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the door, I found an old screen door, replaced the original screen with the expanded metal and added the gate hinges for a little extra fun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The door to the <a href="http://thefarriersdaughter.blogspot.com/2011/06/welcome-home-wednesday-2.html" target="_blank">Mud Room</a> was swapped out for a glass door and an old sash window was installed above my desk area to maximize natural light.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So why isn't it "finished"?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well, I have an old butcher block that my Grandfather used to cut meat on that is awaiting a new set of wood-turned legs that will become my new island...until then, I have this antique flour table that sits center stage.</div>

Do you ever have those moments where something strikes you as funny or odd and you just can't seem to shake the thought?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I don't know if Dairy Queen, best known for its hot eats and cool treats, is a nationwide chain, or if we North westerners are the only ones lucky enough to enjoy their scrumptious Blizzards, but when you order one of these amazing desserts, you get more than just a sweet mixture of ice cream and candy bars. What you get my friends is a very awkward moment.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Imagine this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After ordering, waiting patiently while the saliva builds in anticipation, and handing over your hard earned cash, the worker slides open the window and reaches out with your Blizzard in hand. You anxiously reach to meet them in the middle when you notice they have stopped midway and are now turning your cold treat upside down right in front of your face! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first time this happened I just about screamed in fear that they were dropping my Georgia Mud Fudge on the ground like some evil trick. But they quickly turned the dessert with no lid, (spoon stuck smack dab in the top) right side up and handed it over with a smile on their face. Strange! What is even more strange is that there is never any verbal communication throughout the entire exchange. No explanation for what I call a very random act. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've decided over the years of ordering my favorite, Georgia Mud Fudge, that this awkward moment is likely because DQ prides themselves on on the freshness of their blizzards and that they do this to show that the ice cream has not melted. Nonetheless, it creates an uneasy feeling every. single. time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I thought that this random thought needed a visual, so I have come up with my very own Ecard:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8_s_LKt2G6s/Ue7gnvh_UoI/AAAAAAAACbs/PjpfHJ3FAXw/s1600/ecard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8_s_LKt2G6s/Ue7gnvh_UoI/AAAAAAAACbs/PjpfHJ3FAXw/s400/ecard.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Can anyone out there relate?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Ahhh, alas, it is over!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have this problem where I say silly things like, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"I'm not going to go all out or do anything fancy this time."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you ever hear me say this, please know that<b> it is a lie.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While I sometimes try not to put too much emphasis on parties and decorating, I have found that I simply cannot help it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our youngest daughter recently turned four years old, and requested a Lalaloopsy Birthday Party. While it may not have much to do with The Farrier's Daughter, it has a lot to do with family, which is very important to me, so I thought I'd share :-) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3xDvrBK-tt4/UeiF5RmKiPI/AAAAAAAACZU/71Mpwno2y94/s1600/cake2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3xDvrBK-tt4/UeiF5RmKiPI/AAAAAAAACZU/71Mpwno2y94/s320/cake2.jpg" width="240" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The birthday girl requested a chocolate cake (following right in her Mama's footsteps).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So with the the aid of what I like to call a "Cake Coach", I proceeded to make my own.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm not much of a baker. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I appreciate pretty baked goods, and I enjoy eating pastries, but I have never had the best luck with getting things to look pretty. Caving, cracking, burning...the list goes on. So this was a<i> huge</i> undertaking for me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But with the help of my Cake Coach (an extremely talented friend sending me links to websites, and written instructions), it turned out wonderfully!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cRJCW7vtOlA/UeiFtIilu0I/AAAAAAAACYs/bjEd1CXaBqI/s1600/2nd+cake.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cRJCW7vtOlA/UeiFtIilu0I/AAAAAAAACYs/bjEd1CXaBqI/s320/2nd+cake.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The finished product was a smooth finished, crusted butter cream icing over chocolate cake with a creamy peanut butter filling in between the layers! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
YUM!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The paper toppers were made from scrap booking paper, buttons and paper straws, and the rest were Lalaloopsy figurines that the birthday girl could keep!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xmIlpKoVP_M/UeiF3kFEAzI/AAAAAAAACZE/njbMZuPl7zY/s1600/cake+table.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xmIlpKoVP_M/UeiF3kFEAzI/AAAAAAAACZE/njbMZuPl7zY/s320/cake+table.jpg" width="196" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-c95w9IL3aNc/UeiF4jeZh5I/AAAAAAAACZM/lhljmYUMNoc/s1600/cake.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-c95w9IL3aNc/UeiF4jeZh5I/AAAAAAAACZM/lhljmYUMNoc/s320/cake.jpg" width="232" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ikaUKopTa8U/UeiF5i48DXI/AAAAAAAACZY/axLNwQ3EacY/s1600/cookies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ikaUKopTa8U/UeiF5i48DXI/AAAAAAAACZY/axLNwQ3EacY/s320/cookies.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The party was based around her favorite doll...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Crumbs Sugar Cookie.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, of course, I had to make sugar cookies!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The original plan was to use Royal Icing to get that perfect finish on the cookies, but because I am a Royal Icing virgin, and because that stuff really doesn't have a pleasant taste, I decided to go with butter cream. Remember that crusting butter cream I mentioned earlier?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Same stuff!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Worked like a charm, and tasted good!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NM2voOgAPI8/UeiF5m_f1lI/AAAAAAAACZk/apLNmQx_7T4/s1600/crumbs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NM2voOgAPI8/UeiF5m_f1lI/AAAAAAAACZk/apLNmQx_7T4/s320/crumbs.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is what Crumbs Sugar Cookie looks like.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since my girls LOVE to dress up, part of her gift was a Crumbs Sugar Cookie outfit to wear.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eV33J70LTC0/UeiF2xs8b7I/AAAAAAAACY4/IiyUqIF5GwI/s1600/Reese.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eV33J70LTC0/UeiF2xs8b7I/AAAAAAAACY4/IiyUqIF5GwI/s320/Reese.jpg" width="174" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is the Birthday Girl on the morning of her party.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EuuOF5H3XnQ/UeiF6d1MkuI/AAAAAAAACZw/DCbOnOI0oW8/s1600/jewel.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EuuOF5H3XnQ/UeiF6d1MkuI/AAAAAAAACZw/DCbOnOI0oW8/s400/jewel.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And if you have two daughters, then you know that you can't make dress up for one and not the other. Big sister requested a dress that mimicked Jewels Sparkles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CrWO-02KAWI/UeiF2miMV-I/AAAAAAAACY0/YHkNDXhIh4k/s1600/Raegen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CrWO-02KAWI/UeiF2miMV-I/AAAAAAAACY0/YHkNDXhIh4k/s320/Raegen.jpg" width="177" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not as close of a match, but it did the trick. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lIkogJpvw-w/UeiF9GQz_JI/AAAAAAAACaE/m129xdLWKzI/s1600/make+a+wish.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lIkogJpvw-w/UeiF9GQz_JI/AAAAAAAACaE/m129xdLWKzI/s320/make+a+wish.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Refreshments were served from my trusty Costco drink dispenser. If they ever get these in stock again (usually around the holidays), you <i>have</i> to buy one! Trust me, you'll be glad you did.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I use this one all of the time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mNEh3WBFdEs/UeiGAJIDlyI/AAAAAAAACa0/oRT8KUPVWRA/s1600/punch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mNEh3WBFdEs/UeiGAJIDlyI/AAAAAAAACa0/oRT8KUPVWRA/s320/punch.jpg" width="204" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q5RNi_h0eIM/UeiGBUA3sbI/AAAAAAAACa8/NGquacfrcDY/s1600/reese2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q5RNi_h0eIM/UeiGBUA3sbI/AAAAAAAACa8/NGquacfrcDY/s320/reese2.jpg" width="211" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Activities consisted of stringing brightly colored, beaded, necklaces, embroidery hoop ring toss, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Haha!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ok, so I'm joking.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was just too tempting to <b>not </b>stand behind the giant pianta for a photo op!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Candy/Loot Bags were just craft bags that I ran through the Big Shot with a Chevron embossing folder. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
You can get it by going here:</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Lalaloopsy Pinata was made using a big punching balloon for the base.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Luckily our oldest was a champion at paper mache, so I had a good helper.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After filling and attaching the strings for hanging, I added hair, (using pink paper napkins rolled up), and painted on her face.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have to admit that after all of the hard work that went into it, we were hesitant to let kids beat her with a bat!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cE5N3-IskEI/UeiGBvsBCQI/AAAAAAAACbA/BgpSP_WBkJE/s1600/reese+and+polly.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cE5N3-IskEI/UeiGBvsBCQI/AAAAAAAACbA/BgpSP_WBkJE/s320/reese+and+polly.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Remember when I said that I can't help but decorate?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That, I was not lying about.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Knowing that the kids would want to do pony rides, I decided we should also decorate the horse!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So the morning of the party, the girls and I went out with our paint and fabric scraps and turned Polly into a Lalaloopsy inspired pony. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This post comes to you as a sequel to <a href="http://thefarriersdaughter.blogspot.com/2011/03/cowboy-bootsa-girls-best-friend.html" target="_blank">Cowboy Boots...A Girls Best Friend</a>, because of it's unexpected popularity and the fact that when I wrote that, it was more about <i>my story</i> with boots and less about <i>how to wear your cowboy boots</i>. It's also because it's summer time, and more and more gals are going to start wondering weather they are brave enough to jump into a pair of boots and a sundress! I'm here to tell you there is a reason why you may be nervous: cowboy boots are bold! The good news is that the sooner you realize this small, but important fact, the closer you will be to making great outfit choices involving your boots.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: xx-small;">(<a href="http://weheartit.com/entry/12824285" target="_blank">source</a>)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now that we've got that out of the way, lets assume for a minute that you don't yet own a pair of boots. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Which ones to get? </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">(Already have a pair? Feel free to skip over this next part to Let's Talk Dresses-my feelings won't be hurt)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-55dOU6MxC9Q/UdLfh4HzzaI/AAAAAAAACXs/GgWGFcEWWVQ/s1600/boots+color.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-55dOU6MxC9Q/UdLfh4HzzaI/AAAAAAAACXs/GgWGFcEWWVQ/s320/boots+color.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Color</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With all of the new colors, shapes, heel and shaft heights out there, it can be intimidating. If you are new to boots, and plan on wearing them mostly with dresses let me make just one suggestion...go brown for your first pair, and please for the sake of all things good and right, be sure and buy leather. This is an investment, and the last thing you want to do is strut your stuff in a pair of pleather boots. If that little voice in your head is asking you, "But how will anyone know the difference?" Trust me they will! When leather boots scuff, it shows that this isn't your first rodeo. It says, "Yeah, I'm a girl whose not afraid to get dirty and work hard." Guys like that. Trust me.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When pleather scuffs, well it doesn't really scuff...it peels. It looks tacky and cheap, and nobody wants to be tacky or cheap.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Okay back to the color. I suggest brown because it is a good staple to have in your closet. Seems silly to start branching out to other colors before you are confident in your trusty brown boots. Also, color adds more boldness to the boot. If you are already a little unsure about this, you'll stand out a little less in brown. Brown also goes with most everything, so it's a 10 in versatility.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Shape</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yes, they come in many shapes...toe shapes that is.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Again, my suggestion on shape is considering that you are mostly looking to wear your new or existing boots with dresses. In my opinion, wearing your boots with jeans opens up a world of opportunity that you just don't have with dresses. So for dresses, I suggest a pointy or snip toe.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The point helps elongate the line of the legs and adds a little "dressy factor" that is always a plus when wearing even a casual dress. The other bonus is that pointy or snip toe boots also look great with jeans. Score!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you must know why I steer clear of round toe when it comes to wearing dresses it's because in the farm world, rounded toe boots say, "working boots". </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hey did she just contradict herself? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Didn't she say guys like hard working girls? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hold tight, I didn't. Well, I did. But what I meant was they like a worn-in boot and a girl whose not afraid to get dirty. However, they don't want their elevator eyes to come to a screeching halt when they get to your boots because they can't get past the image of horse poop, mucking stalls, and feeding livestock. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Heel and Shaft Height</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Heel height is important when it comes to pairing boots with dresses. Think about models on the runway. Even if they are 99.9% nude there is one thing they will always have one. Are you with me? Heels! There is a reason us ladies wear heels and it's because it does good things for our overall look. They extend the leg, lift the tush, and make us look a tad slimmer. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So when you go to buy your boots, please pass by the ropers! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
On the opposite side of things, I urge you to also be careful of going with too tall of a heel. A super high heel on a boot can scream, well, I hate to say it, but slutty, sleazy, or easy. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Wow! That was uncomfortable! Sorry, I had to do it...it was for your own good...promise.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Shaft height is pretty standard in cowboy boots. I have noticed this year the short shaft is becoming more popular, but I consider those more of a <i>fashion boot </i>and less of an authentic <i>cowboy boot</i>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you are tall, Liberty Boots makes an extended shaft that would look fabulous with sundresses, but for us vertically challenged girls, we'd better stick to the regular height shaft so that we don't end up looking like we are playing dress up in our mama's closet.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another thing to pay close attention to when trying on a boot is the shaft circumference. Those of us with what I like to call "athletic calves", are going to have a little more trouble here. You want to be careful not to get a boot that fits tightly around your calf. Not only is it uncomfortable, it screams CHUBBY when you wear them with a dress. Again, just being honest here. Don't hate me.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The other plus to getting a boot with a little wiggle room in the shaft is that is provides a convenient place to store your <a href="http://www.thefarriersdaughter.com/" target="_blank">Cowgirl Canteen</a> (super cute hip flask made especially for women).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v7bVqv6ruo0/UdLf6GWGl6I/AAAAAAAACX8/hq7C8k9FS_I/s1600/boots+color.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v7bVqv6ruo0/UdLf6GWGl6I/AAAAAAAACX8/hq7C8k9FS_I/s400/boots+color.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Okay, so now that we have the boots figured out,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Let's talk dresses.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D3QYBIk48Yg/UdLioQOXJ8I/AAAAAAAACYc/fMa1baKNpdc/s388/aztec+dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D3QYBIk48Yg/UdLioQOXJ8I/AAAAAAAACYc/fMa1baKNpdc/s320/aztec+dress.jpg" width="194" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's summer time, so I am going to focus on shorter length dresses. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>(For the record: I have worn a maxi dress with boots before, I'm just not sure I'll ever do it again. It probably works better for taller gals, but for me, well, I felt like I already had most of my body covered up with the long dress, and that my feet needed to be free!) </i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When choosing a dress to wear with your cowboy boots, think feminine, and flirty. I am going to revert back to the rule we talked about earlier.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Boots. Are. Bold. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Wearing boots with dresses is already sexy. Getting a super short dress, with cleavage spilling over, or one that looks as if it's been painted on is not going to do anything for your class factor. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Choose something that shows a little bit of leg (not showing enough will make you look short).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Flowy, non-form fitting look best. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The idea here is that the <i>concept</i> of wearing your boots with a dress is what is sexy. The attention should be on the outfit. If you want to put emphasis on body parts, then be sure and lotion up your arms and legs so that they are glowing, or opt for a strapless dress. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Need a cover up option?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A nice denim jacket does the job and looks super cute! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope this helps answer some questions and you feel confident in rocking your boots with dresses. I hear a lot of women say that they despise wearing shorts in the summer time, and this is the perfect solution!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wh4d8TNO6e0/Uc-Fa3m1pZI/AAAAAAAACXc/XNUm_wS7D04/s1600/reese+color.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wh4d8TNO6e0/Uc-Fa3m1pZI/AAAAAAAACXc/XNUm_wS7D04/s400/reese+color.jpg" width="246" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As promised before in <a href="http://thefarriersdaughter.blogspot.com/2013/06/polly-pony.html" target="_blank">Meet Polly</a>, the story as to how Princess and the Pony got it's name:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It was a clear spring evening. And as the sun sank behind
the tree tops, there was still plenty of light to fill the sky. As we walked
through the field, the last of the chickens scampered into the coop to roost for
the night. Polly raised her head at the first sound of us. She stood frozen,
watching our every step. She knew what time it was. Just like every other
night, it was time for Polly to go to bed.<br />
<br />
To keep from foundering, she gets
put in a paddock at the end of every day. I knew immediately, that catching her
was going to be a chore this particular evening. Our oldest daughter, who is holding
my right hand, says, “I’ll get her Mama” as I feel her release my grip. What
she doesn't know, is that while she was in the middle of announcing her plan,
our youngest, at the ripe age of 3 has already beat her to it.<br />
<br />
Without a word,
I realize that she too has left my hand empty and began moving toward the horse. I say nothing, but hold up an
open palm to stop Raegen from proceeding. I can tell that Reese is on a
mission. She walks with purpose, her long blonde hair bouncing around her
shoulders, with her soft, silky, pink princess dress gathered in one hand in
front of her as not to trip. It seems as though nearly all of the things I've
said about approaching a horse have been lost on her. She doesn't walk
slowly to keep from spooking, nor does she offer a hand. Instead, she marches
right up to that pony with a mighty heavy force for a little girl in pink princess
dress. It's almost as if she is angry with her. And as Polly jerks her head up, Reese does
not back down. She continues, because this little girl is on a mission. She
grabs hold of the halter and begins to walk Polly to her paddock. From where I
stood, I witnessed an amazing sight that I hope to never forget. My strong little
girl walking along side that pony, with a puffy pink dress flouncing about, tendrils
blowing in the wind, and a sense of confidence that I pray she never loses.</div>

Last spring, my husband and I took the girls on a family vacation to Texas for my cousins wedding. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While on this Southern adventure of ours, I fell in love with Texas. I loved the warmth and sunshine (something we only get for about 3 months of the year around here-if we're lucky). I loved the effort put into making things look pretty. Texans have a sense of pride that I found very admirable. Things like business signs weren't just plain-jane, looking like every other one on the street. They were clever, interesting, and eye-catching.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Soooo... I started taking pictures of them... to share with you...a year later :-) </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This one completely blew me away! I never found out what kind of establishment Mooseknuckle was, but I think it's safe to say that I am okay with the decision not to find out. But really, who names their pub, "Mooseknuckle"? I guess I should have checked to see if "Cameltoe" was next door!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Until next time,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cheers from TFD</div>

Last fall I started doing window displays for my good friends at <a href="http://mysalonmecca.com/" target="_blank">Salon Mecca</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Their new beauty lounge is located on Court Street, downtown Salem, Oregon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With lots of foot traffic, and two huge street facing windows, their location is prime for visual advertising.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The problems I face with this particular window are this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. Size. Did I mention it's HUGE?!?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. Most businesses that have storefront windows work around the merchandise. It's more tricky than you think to come up with ideas that highlight <i>services</i> as opposed to <i>products</i>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For this window display, the gals asked that I highlight their Esthetician, Sonja John, and the facial services that she offers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Below is a photo of the finished product. To get a little glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes, please keep reading :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IerSoMOlKPs/UcB806T4uvI/AAAAAAAACUY/QQcnndFd05M/s1600/spa+window+display.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IerSoMOlKPs/UcB806T4uvI/AAAAAAAACUY/QQcnndFd05M/s320/spa+window+display.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once a plan is devised (aka my brain goes crazy with ideas swirling around, thus keeping me from sleeping or thinking about anything else), I start gathering supplies. I try to keep the cost of supplies to a minimum, using things I already have or repurposing when possible. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IerSoMOlKPs/UcB806T4uvI/AAAAAAAACUY/QQcnndFd05M/s1600/spa+window+display.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IerSoMOlKPs/UcB806T4uvI/AAAAAAAACUY/QQcnndFd05M/s1600/spa+window+display.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IerSoMOlKPs/UcB806T4uvI/AAAAAAAACUY/QQcnndFd05M/s1600/spa+window+display.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IerSoMOlKPs/UcB806T4uvI/AAAAAAAACUY/QQcnndFd05M/s1600/spa+window+display.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rR_0VJVh3CY/UcB8vRA2aMI/AAAAAAAACTc/0nbBOQOp8OA/s1600/spa+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rR_0VJVh3CY/UcB8vRA2aMI/AAAAAAAACTc/0nbBOQOp8OA/s320/spa+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The white Chinese paper lanterns shown above were actually left over from our wedding! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I dipped the bases of them in silver paint then gave them a healthy dose of silver glitter.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y9MrT22CX8I/UcB8vxnFvcI/AAAAAAAACTo/oq0jCxDDyXg/s1600/spa+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y9MrT22CX8I/UcB8vxnFvcI/AAAAAAAACTo/oq0jCxDDyXg/s320/spa+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I try to do as much of the work on the front end as possible so that tear down (of the previous window) and set up are as quick as possible. Once I arrive, I unload and the madness begins.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-udvmoJJNqgM/UcB8vzA6wyI/AAAAAAAACTg/dlmUozZCfHA/s1600/spa+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-udvmoJJNqgM/UcB8vzA6wyI/AAAAAAAACTg/dlmUozZCfHA/s320/spa+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">Sometimes I can convey a message without the use of text, but for this one, I decided to try my hand at window painting!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CpNKiunDons/UcB8xmDPe0I/AAAAAAAACT4/g1yfPuQ8_xw/s1600/spa+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CpNKiunDons/UcB8xmDPe0I/AAAAAAAACT4/g1yfPuQ8_xw/s320/spa+4.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was January when I did this window, so I wanted it to have a natural, earthy, rustic feel to it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The salon offers a tasteful combination of elegant and rustic and I wanted to mimic that.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In all of the windows I strive to create something that is cohesive with the decor you will find inside.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-13Py693nKkU/UcB8x3OGpjI/AAAAAAAACUA/3boR_xEa5Qg/s1600/spa+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-13Py693nKkU/UcB8x3OGpjI/AAAAAAAACUA/3boR_xEa5Qg/s320/spa+5.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not going to lie to you, it is complete chaos until I'm finished!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I always have a plan going into it, but I've never certain it's going to work. There is a lot of improvising which can be nerve wracking!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZH6syeb344/UcB8xvJwXvI/AAAAAAAACT0/l0c9exhLewI/s1600/spa+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZH6syeb344/UcB8xvJwXvI/AAAAAAAACT0/l0c9exhLewI/s320/spa+6.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the faux massage table, I used a 6' folding table and sat it on 4 tree stumps that my hubby cut for me.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I then used our camping pads for the cushion and covered with white sheets and a vintage hobnail bedspread and topped it off with smooth black stones that I found at the Dollar Store.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PZ12d7sWzO0/UcB8zxAP3WI/AAAAAAAACUM/qXunBIwi_00/s1600/spa+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PZ12d7sWzO0/UcB8zxAP3WI/AAAAAAAACUM/qXunBIwi_00/s320/spa+7.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pallets standing on their sides and wood rounds offer a rustic vibe, allowing lots of white candles, fluffy rugs, and robes to stand out.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-f8sHr5j6aT8/UcB80_mmZsI/AAAAAAAACUU/O8BiHtMch00/s1600/spa+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-f8sHr5j6aT8/UcB80_mmZsI/AAAAAAAACUU/O8BiHtMch00/s320/spa+8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had originally planned to stack the pallets two high, to create a full wall, but once I got there, I became deathly afraid that they might fall and take out the whole window! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So a half wall it was, and I'm okay with that.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HVtR_26e3Hk/UcB86ZG_wjI/AAAAAAAACUk/WeoCpfCcORQ/s1600/spa+9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HVtR_26e3Hk/UcB86ZG_wjI/AAAAAAAACUk/WeoCpfCcORQ/s320/spa+9.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It sounds like Salon Mecca is going to be offering some new services and are looking for another Spa inspired window. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Any Ideas?</div>
The Farrier's Daughterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06650042836489736855noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5348136162231615333.post-18263986086702349162013-06-13T15:29:00.001-07:002013-10-23T22:11:46.321-07:00Princess and the Pony: Meet Polly<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Growing up with a farrier for a father, you would be safe to assume that that also meant growing up with horses. My summer vacations as a child were typically spent in the wilderness, packing into some remote location on horseback. Even as a tiny tot, too young to ride ourselves, we were either in a backpack or sharing a saddle with an adult. Once we were old enough to ride solo, we would "pony up" on our own and down the trail we went. I remember singing songs as a family.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"I'll Take the High Road" and "She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain" bring a smile to my face still today. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
During college, I was away from home, and away from horses. I was doing what most youngsters are doing during those years, and trying to <i>find myself</i>. During this phase, I somehow decided that even though I had loved horses all of my life, I wouldn't need them as an adult. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Fast forward to motherhood.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Isn't it funny how having your own kids opens your eyes to the things that were truly important to you as a child? I found myself wanting to give my children the things that had brought me such joy as a young girl.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I wanted to give them a pony. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rlZzeS2rnac/Ubo6BTCjnpI/AAAAAAAACS8/0vEBDT17vww/s1600/3K63Jb3Nc5Ea5K95Had4kd6155ec46250175d.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rlZzeS2rnac/Ubo6BTCjnpI/AAAAAAAACS8/0vEBDT17vww/s320/3K63Jb3Nc5Ea5K95Had4kd6155ec46250175d.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It recently dawned on me that times have changed dramatically since I was a kid. While I write that it seems so obvious...but I'm not talking about the obvious. I'm talking about the amount and age at which kids become dedicated to extracurricular activities! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As a child, I was involved in sports and clubs, but I can't say that I started much of anything before Jr. High...nothing serious or consistent anyway. There may have been a few who did, but it was rare. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With our oldest daughter in 1st grade taking Ballet, playing soccer, and enrolled in swim lessons, I started to feel like I was missing out on her life. Here I was doing all of these things <i>for</i> her, yet, all I really felt like was a taxi that drove her around and dropped her off at practices. I missed my baby girl! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This spring we spent a day at a Ranch (<a href="http://thefarriersdaughter.blogspot.com/2013/05/a-taste-of-ranch-life-in-prairie-city.html" target="_blank">see post here</a>) in Prairie City, Oregon, and it all started to sink in. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I saw my girls enjoying pony rides, plying in the dirt, and climbing fences, and I started questioning what was really important. No, I didn't go all extremist and pull her out of all activities, but I decide we need to cut back-for now any way. Because for now, my daughter still thinks I'm cool and likes to spend time with me. For now, I am more important than boys. I know that my days are numbered, and I am choosing to spend them differently. There will come a time when all of those activities will be all-consuming in her mind, but for now, at the age of 7, lets embrace the love for ponies and mama's! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After a few long talks with my husband, we decided we would get a pony. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found a 10 year old mare on Craigslist, who was previously used for pony rides. After driving to Washington to check her out, we decided she would be a great fit for our family. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Below is a picture of the day we brought Polly home.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
That night, as I kissed the girls goodnight, Raegen said,<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">"Mommy, I guess dreams really do come true!"</span><br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-StLZcanN64g/UbpDciVjApI/AAAAAAAACTM/cLQjbktxSB0/s1600/polly.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-StLZcanN64g/UbpDciVjApI/AAAAAAAACTM/cLQjbktxSB0/s640/polly.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The idea is that we will spend more time here, together, with Polly, and less time running around.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I look forward to teaching our girls about the handling, riding, and responsibility that go along with owning a horse. I look forward to the time we'll spend together and the unspoken lessons that come with this journey. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Polly has been part of the family since (late) April of this year, and the stories are already adding up. With summer break now here, I'm sure there are many more to come. Feel free to follow along as I share snippets of our pony experience on this blog. I think I'll call it, "Princess and the Pony". You'll find out why in a future post, but for now, we'll consider an introduction sufficient :-) </div>

You ready for this?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's easy. Super easy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here we go....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Industrial Toilet Paper Holder Tutorial</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3vKuxbXpoPQ/Ua9-fOLXyCI/AAAAAAAACR0/nEv92931YtU/s1600/tp+holder2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3vKuxbXpoPQ/Ua9-fOLXyCI/AAAAAAAACR0/nEv92931YtU/s640/tp+holder2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Start by heading to your local hardware store. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You are going to want to find the plumbing section...just follow the guy whose pants are revealing the upper portion of his buttocks and he'll most likely lead you right to it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ha! No, kidding, don't do that. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you need to ask for help, you are looking for galvanized pipe. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I find that the help at hardware stores (especially if you are a woman) is always top notch. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So don't be afraid to ask.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You will most likely find an isle with some really long sticks of pipe standing upright and a bunch of small bins holding different size/lengths of smaller sticks of pipe and fittings. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is your shopping list:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1/2" Floor Flange (it's round, kind of flat, and has a hole 1/2" in diameter in the center)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1/2" x 2" Galvanized pipe (again 1/2" diameter and 2" in length)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1/2" Galvanized Elbow (look for the macaroni shaped piece)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1/2" x 6" Galvanized Pipe </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1/2" Galvanized Cap</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 package of Walldog screws (this isn't in the plumbing section)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Walldog screws are a screw and anchor in one, so you don't have to worry about going straight into the drywall when you hang this beauty. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zKbQVK4vOnI/Ua9-5Qmzu6I/AAAAAAAACSM/flu4Xp3ZmaE/s1600/tp+holder5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zKbQVK4vOnI/Ua9-5Qmzu6I/AAAAAAAACSM/flu4Xp3ZmaE/s640/tp+holder5.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once you have gathered all of your supplies, set them out and begin assembly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Start with the floor flange and shortest (2") stick of pipe. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Screw them together as tightly as you can. Use wrenches if you are an overachiever and want to get it super snug, but I used my hands and it's worked just fine. Come to think of it, my husband always says I have a problem with, "man handling" things, so maybe I have some super strength. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ok, moving on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now it's time to grab the elbow piece, and screw it into the 2" pipe.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once that is secure, add the 6" stick to the the other end of the elbow and fasten.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lastly, take the cap and screw it onto the exposed end of the 6" pipe to polish it off.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4VgexqIPwUU/Ua9-Ryqwp9I/AAAAAAAACRk/vngPCMwxwcU/s1600/tp+holder4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4VgexqIPwUU/Ua9-Ryqwp9I/AAAAAAAACRk/vngPCMwxwcU/s400/tp+holder4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For hanging, I used four Walldog anchor/screws and going through the four vacant holes on the floor flange, drilled them into place.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also folded the toilet paper all fancy like the hotels do just for you! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the record, this was the first and last time I will be doing anything fancy with toilet paper. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And to my husband, just in case you read this....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Creating animals out of towels is also out of the question :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are a few other ways I've used Galvanized Pipe:</div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6lxwSVHYkB8/Ua4m436ZlUI/AAAAAAAACRU/_KWUG_nfHGg/s1600/farm_chicks_or_bust.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6lxwSVHYkB8/Ua4m436ZlUI/AAAAAAAACRU/_KWUG_nfHGg/s320/farm_chicks_or_bust.jpg" width="239" /></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">For the past couple of years my girlfriend and I have
treated ourselves to a ladies weekend…a getaway to the faraway land of Spokane,
Washington, where the junk abounds. This magical place is called The Farm
Chicks Show. It’s a place for us to shop hundreds of vendors’ vintage and
handmade goods that we haul back to beautify our homes. It’s a place where for
just a little while, I am not required to be responsible for anyone but myself.
No cries from the throne to wipe booties, no breaking up fights, and for once,
I am actually not the driver of the cab. It’s relaxing, and fun. It’s being
carefree and catching up with other adults-without interruptions! And as
wonderful as it is, my friend and I decided not to go this year.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">So, in lieu of The Farm Chicks Show 2013, I have not but a recounting
of events and treasures; rather, a story of admission if you will, from a
previous show. Embarrassing as it may be, it is part of my past that brings
back both humiliation and gut wrenching laughter…still…to this day. And so,
after years of holding onto this little ditty, I have decided to share it with
you. I mean, hey, if <a href="http://thepioneerwoman.com/" target="_blank">The Pioneer Woman, </a></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"><a href="http://thepioneerwoman.com/" target="_blank">Ree Drummond</a></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> can belch the ABC’s and still have a huge fan
base and successful career (which I find awesome by the way-that she isn’t
afraid to be herself), I too should be able to tell less than flattering
stories right? So as you read, please keep in mind, we are all human. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">It was June 2011, and our first night in Spokane. We had
driven all day, and were anxiously anticipating the next day’s events. After
treating ourselves to a wonderful dinner at Chaps, we returned to our hotel
lounge. The entertainment for the evening was that of an 80’s Butt Rock Band.
You know the scene…lots of hairspray, mullets, and skinny jeans. While I’m sure
they were a great band ;-) it wasn’t exactly the way we had hoped to spend our precious
time away. So we finished our drinks and decided to call a cab.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> Look out
Spokane! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Unfamiliar with the city, we bounced from <s>bar to bar</s> establishment to establishment, in search of a
place where we felt comfortable. Along our quest, we found what was likely the
local “college hang out” (much too young), gothic convention (dark and
intimidating), and gay bar (oops, completely out of place). While none of these
places offered the ambiance we were looking for, they did all offer at least
one drink before we decided to move on (because let’s face it, it’s rude to
walk in, look around and walk out). By now, it’s safe to say that we have both
had way more to drink than either of us are used to consuming. Maybe it was due
to walking blocks upon blocks, but at that point, we seemed fine. Fine, until
we finally found a place that was a little bit more our pace. I will spare the
rest of the details of the night, and leave you with your imagination. What I
will tell you is that we ended up feeling less than parr the following morning.
</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Beeeeeep! Beeeeeep! Beeeeeep!</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Saturday morning came so early. And while neither of us felt
like dragging ourselves out of bed…we had come a <i>long</i> way for this, and we were not going to miss it! I remember
saying, “Just push through it, and it will be okay.” WRONG. While we did “push
through it”, everything was not okay. We had made a big mistake, and we were
paying for it. As if the experience of feeling too old to be “out” the night
before weren’t bad enough, I am now also experience first-hand, all of the
reasons why I am also physically too old for such shenanigans. In the words of my
friend Winnie the Pooh, I had a “rumbly in my tumbly!” I remember thinking that
if I could just <i>go to the bathroom </i>I
could rid myself of the toxins I’d introduced to my stomach the night prior,
thus ridding myself of the horrendous belly discomfort that was constantly
nagging at me as I attempted to shop among thousands of others. Finally, we
decided to make our way to the women’s restroom, and that is when it happened.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I peered down the lengthy row of closed stall doors,
awaiting my turn. I remember thinking that I was pleased to find such a spacious
bathroom, because if my trip to the ladies room was a success, it would be less
likely that anyone (with the exception of the gal who used my stall when I was
done-and to her, I am sorry) would be able to identify me as the culprit of the
offensive aroma. Finally, a door swung open, and I made my way to the vacant
stall. Now, here is where I have to add in that I first took note of the
toilets pre existing condition. The water level seemed to be a tad higher than
it should have been, and it immediately raised a red flag. However, given my
current mental state and the length of line behind me, I made the regretful
decision to carry on. I covered the toilet, perched, and waited…nothing. Well,
not much anyway. A little, but let’s not go into details on the specifics.
Unsatisfied with the outcome, I stood, pulled up my pants and flushed. What
happened next seemed to unfold in slow motion before me. Remember that “higher
than normal” water level? Well, it began to rise, higher and higher and higher,
until it had reached the cusp. Water was now spilling over the edge, as I stood
frozen, watching the toilet paper and the remains of my feeble attempt at a
bowl movement swirling about. "Dear God, I am so sorry for my immature behavior
and excessive drinking last night. Please, please, pa-lease don’t let the kids
go over the waterfall of toilet water onto the floor for all to see." Water was
now surrounding the ground beneath my feet, and making its way under the stall
door in search of a drain. Thankfully, my prayers were heard…or maybe I finally
found the courage to move and turned off the water supply, but nonetheless,
water was the only thing spilling out of the toilet. Okay, good. That’s taken
care of. A sigh of relief comes over me and as the reality of what has just
happened sinks in I can’t decide rather I should panic or burst out in
laughter. My decision making process is then interrupted by the sounds of
passerby. “Ewww, gross”, I can hear them shrill as they painstakingly lift
their feet like flamingos and cross through the mess I have just created. Now
what? Oh crap! I now somehow have to walk out of this stall at some point and
time. “They don’t know you, Lindsey. Just put your big girl panties on and deal
with it. You </span><i style="font-family: inherit;">can</i><span style="font-family: inherit;"> do this.” After my
internal pep talk was finished, I opened the door, walked out, and shutting the
door behind me, my eyes fell upon my friend, patiently waiting for me. All I
could manage was a fair warning, “You might not want to go in there!” </span>The Farrier's Daughterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06650042836489736855noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5348136162231615333.post-78232859562442612922013-05-31T11:26:00.000-07:002013-05-31T11:26:02.975-07:00A taste of Ranch Life in Prairie City, Oregon<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Howdy! </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
I'd say it's time to dust the cobwebs off of this blog and reconnect...what better way to do that than with a post full of good old fashioned {amateur} cowboy photography? </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Over Easter weekend, my husband (Nick) and I loaded up the girls and headed East, to Prairie City, Oregon. My sister-in-law (Rhiannon) had settled into this quaint little town while fighting forest fires, and a visit was in order. When we arrived Friday evening, we headed to the Oxbow for dinner where we ran into some of Rhiannon’s close friends, and were invited out to their ranch the following day for branding. I was ecstatic! I kept trying to play it off like, “oh <i>the girls</i> would love it!” And while I knew they would, I was secretly screaming, “Yessss, I am so excited, I can hardly wait!”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The following morning we attended an Easter Egg Hunt in the neighboring town of John Day, Oregon, but the true fun came just after the hunt. We went back to Rhiannon’s, changed clothes and headed to the Jacobs’ Ranch. Stepping out of the Suburban into the sun and dust, the sound of bellering cows filled the air. From where we stood, we couldn’t see a soul, but the sounds alone sent anticipation through my blood. The girls quickly pulled themselves up the nearest gate to get a better view, as I drew my camera to ready position for a view of my own.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
As the day passed, we were greeted with nothing but kindness from the families involved. They took us in, and treated us like their own. The girls would bounce back and forth between front row seats of a calf being roped, medicated, banded and branded to pony rides, snacks, and playing in the dirt. Nick decided to give calf wrestling a whirl, and I sat back, and soaked in the sight of my family enjoying a day in the good life. Here’s a little peak into our day at the ranch…</div>

Ever since I came up with the idea for the Cowgirl Canteen,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
the men in my life (husband, brothers, friends) have been bugging me to come up with a flask fit for a manly- man...alas, I have answered! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So go ahead boys, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Put a Little Hair on your Chest...or your flask!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AXTF6AaTwMg/UQSzQzgm93I/AAAAAAAACM8/s1piVOlhFOA/s1600/mustache.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AXTF6AaTwMg/UQSzQzgm93I/AAAAAAAACM8/s1piVOlhFOA/s400/mustache.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These would also be perfect flasks for groomsmen gifts!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's like killing two birds with one stone...gift/wedding photo prop.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And for the t-shirt...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well, while it might be a bit on the crude side...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(in the words of Larry the Cable Guy)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't care who you are-that's funny!</div>

It’s a dream, a wish, a desire that runs deep in my soul. When driving down the

an old truck on the side of the road when road tripping with my sister. Had I
been with my husband, it’s almost guaranteed that we would have kept driving,
but I had my sister! She knows about my mad obsession, and probably knew before
I even said a word that we would be making a brief stop. To look at trucks
online is one thing, but to actually be standing in front of your dream is
another. We did what any two normal gals would do, and took pictures with it. I
mean, hey, a girl can dream right?!?! What’s even better is that it was
unlocked…in we went…pictures inside too! Now I can literally <s>taste</s> smell
it! <o:p></o:p></span></div>

kind old man ever sold the truck. I see he has moved it from the road, to
behind his business. Every time I pass it with my hubby, I spy it back there,
and tease him that the old-timer is saving it for me! <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">As a new year begins,
and goals are made…one of mine just might have to be investing in a
memory-maker, an old truck.</span><br />

Howdy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you made it through the holiday weekend, crazy family dinners, and Black Friday shopping, then you are sure to be ready for this week's Whiskey Wednesday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one comes in shot form, so be sure and have a chaser ready if you are used to sipping.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Dirty Cowgirl</b></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Ingredients:</b></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Butterscotch schnapps </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Pendleton Whiskey</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fill your shot with glass 75% butterscotch schnapps.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Top off the remaining 25% with Pendleton Whiskey. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bottoms Up!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A lot of the recipes out there call for Irish cream in place of the Pendleton Whiskey, but lets face it, nothin' says <i>cowgirl </i>like Pendleton Whiskey!</div>

As the holidays approach, I have a vision of the men sitting together in front of the fireplace sipping their whiskey from their short glasses, and the women huddled in the kitchen, drinking wine, and cooking up a storm. Why is it that this happens? Are we divided by our choice of alcohol? Of course not, the conversation had by the fireplace is just not one that is of interest to us ladies...well, not until the whiskey has kicked in anyhow! Or maybe it is because we know that if a bunch of men drinking whiskey were to prepare our family dinner, we would all go hungry :-) If this is you, you can relate to the situation, and you want to mix things up a bit this year...I say, avoid the wine, take a chance, and go for the whiskey! You never know, it may get you out of cooking! Here is a recipe that might help the transition to whiskey go a little smoother.</div>

This past weekend, we took part in a wonderful event in Redmond, Oregon! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Western Christmas was a shopping experience not to be missed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Held just minutes from the Fairgrounds and the Columbia River Circuit Finals Rodeo, this show is what I like to think of as a smaller scale, Cowboy Christmas that is held in Las Vegas during the NFR. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iHzNFgeOdrI/UJvUk-pS1JI/AAAAAAAACLM/Qy5xFFNBLAE/s1600/2012-11-01+16.37.50.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iHzNFgeOdrI/UJvUk-pS1JI/AAAAAAAACLM/Qy5xFFNBLAE/s320/2012-11-01+16.37.50.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Vendors came from near and far to set up shop offering everything from fudge to cowgirl boots!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We opted for a "cabin in the woods" theme for our booth. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The tin backdrop may look familiar. I've used it in past shows, but decided to chop it down a bit for this one. Would you believe me if I told you that we fit everything in the back of the Suburban?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VTR1P8kMh2A/UJvUJ6MYecI/AAAAAAAACKc/iFg3I8fsKPo/s1600/tfd+booth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VTR1P8kMh2A/UJvUJ6MYecI/AAAAAAAACKc/iFg3I8fsKPo/s320/tfd+booth.jpg" width="241" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i8bD-8DaIRg/UJvURVgXFRI/AAAAAAAACKs/bII009Z2f04/s1600/2012-11-01+16.37.20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i8bD-8DaIRg/UJvURVgXFRI/AAAAAAAACKs/bII009Z2f04/s320/2012-11-01+16.37.20.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I built the fireplace mantle out of some scrap wood we had left over from previous projects. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The horseshoe hangers are courtesy of my father (thanks Dad). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m-Moy6e8tCo/UJvUsCyHmgI/AAAAAAAACLU/5MhjOrb_d5I/s1600/2012-11-01+16.40.29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m-Moy6e8tCo/UJvUsCyHmgI/AAAAAAAACLU/5MhjOrb_d5I/s320/2012-11-01+16.40.29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The plate on the side table ended up getting some cookies for Santa, and in place of the traditional milk, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
we opted for a flask! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After all, Santa has a long night ahead of him ;-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4DhpbuMAAXg/UJvUSBXliEI/AAAAAAAACK0/hk7bUQyFCh0/s1600/2012-11-01+16.38.03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4DhpbuMAAXg/UJvUSBXliEI/AAAAAAAACK0/hk7bUQyFCh0/s320/2012-11-01+16.38.03.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Who needs ornaments when you have Cowgirl Canteens on hand?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A few clothespins to hold things in place, and we had ourselves a very colorful tree.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0efyuWLI7_o/UJvUD8fJdBI/AAAAAAAACJk/9PKveYk1AU0/s1600/dream+catcher.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0efyuWLI7_o/UJvUD8fJdBI/AAAAAAAACJk/9PKveYk1AU0/s320/dream+catcher.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
TFD released a new line of women's flasks at this show.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of my favorites is the Dream Catcher!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A simple background gives an earthy feel, and allows the hand-crochet doily to really stand out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Metal findings that have been patina-ed and topped with some czech beads.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ydqo9vGRWBY/UJvUCOMJd1I/AAAAAAAACJU/C9NMRALWWQc/s1600/boot+with+spur.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ydqo9vGRWBY/UJvUCOMJd1I/AAAAAAAACJU/C9NMRALWWQc/s320/boot+with+spur.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The hand-painted boot proved to be a hit with shoppers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another simple background, only this time, I hand-painted cowboy boots in a cheery turquoise and red.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
An antique bronze metal piece has been hand stitched to resemble a spur!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S4JsXwdJeS0/UJvUFIMxD_I/AAAAAAAACJ0/JmGh9u-5dOk/s1600/rodeo+star.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S4JsXwdJeS0/UJvUFIMxD_I/AAAAAAAACJ0/JmGh9u-5dOk/s320/rodeo+star.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of the many perks of our booth placement was that we were situated right beside the Contestant Autograph/Voting for Parade of Ponies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That meant, we got to meet a bunch of adorable little Rodeo Stars, like this gentleman, Grayson.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zx7VwzMJL-U/UJvUIpVEfwI/AAAAAAAACKM/h9lhDj9-Yyc/s1600/shopper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zx7VwzMJL-U/UJvUIpVEfwI/AAAAAAAACKM/h9lhDj9-Yyc/s320/shopper.jpg" width="258" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Shoppers were dressed to impress, literally from head to toe!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So many great fashion statements were made, and </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
handbag envy was in full force.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bjFVRDh-TFk/UJvUElpP52I/AAAAAAAACJs/IydvuiYjHmw/s1600/nail+art.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bjFVRDh-TFk/UJvUElpP52I/AAAAAAAACJs/IydvuiYjHmw/s320/nail+art.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There weren't many opportunities to sit down, but when she did, my sister and World's Best Helper came up with some awesome nail art! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Haha! Yes, that heart was the bi-product of chipping polish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Central Oregon was as beautiful as ever.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We stayed in Tumalo, Oregon with my brother and sister-in-law, and this is what they wake up to every morning. An absolutely gorgeous sunrise. A HUGE thank you to my awesome family for all the help and hospitality!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Part of the fun is always in the journey...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Especially when you road trip with your sister!</div>
<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QdyAxWk1O4Q/UJvUKgWELNI/AAAAAAAACKk/ad3wZQMVyq8/s1600/truck.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QdyAxWk1O4Q/UJvUKgWELNI/AAAAAAAACKk/ad3wZQMVyq8/s320/truck.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We found this beauty on the way out of town, and I was in LOVE.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Someday, I will make this dream of owning an old truck a reality, but for now I'll enjoy </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
hopping in them when found on the side of the road for a photo opp :-)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Not the greatest representation, but in the new fall line, you will find these Western Shirt inspired flasks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Keep an eye on the <a href="http://www.thefarriersdaughter.com/" target="_blank">website</a>, as they will be added very soon.</div>

If you are in the area, and didn't make it this year, you'll have to shoot for Western Christmas 2013.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
An extremely well run show, that offered food, drinks, Santa, a fashion show, and Cowboy Church along with over 100 fantastic vendors! Thanks so much to all who had a part in putting such a great show!</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For those of us living in the Northwest, it's the time of year where we say good bye to many of our outdoor activities, and prepare to settle in for the long, rainy season ahead. To stay-at-home moms like me, it means many hours spent indoors. It means focusing on the interior of our humble homes, and making them as cozy, clean, and functional as possible. That said, what I am about to share with you couldn't have come at a better time!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
After creating my first <u><a href="http://www.thefarriersdaughter.com/" target="_blank">Cowgirl Canteens</a></u> (hip flasks
for women), I was more than excited to tote them off to my first show. I can
recall the joy I had in creating something unique that shoppers responded so
well to. Lucky for me, the bride who bought the whole batch for bridesmaid
gifts left them on display in my booth until she was done shopping for the day.
This gave me the opportunity to see how others would react to my product. In
doing so, I gathered first-hand information on what kind of people would be
interested in Cowgirl Canteens, and the occasions they were interested in
purchasing for. When I went home at the end of the day, my head was spinning! I
could hardly wait to create more flasks.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I started out small, making a few and listing them on <u><a href="http://www.etsy.com/" target="_blank">etsy</a></u>.
I also opened up my own online shop through <u><a href="http://www.bigcartel.com/" target="_blank">Bigcartel</a></u>. Between these two
ecommerce sites, I was able to list and sell my product for only pennies at a
time. All the while, my husband, family and friends were urging me to approach retail
shops and start selling wholesale (a thought that scared the living day lights
out of me). I remember the moment I finally broke down and went for it. Upon
asking my husband a “business” type question, he replied with, </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“Have you ever realized that you are doing everything in
your power to put off succeeding? What are you afraid of? Stop talking about
it, pick up the phone and call a store.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Sounds a little harsh right? But, it’s what I needed. He was
right, and I went inside, picked up the phone and made a few calls. I planned a
road trip to Bend, Oregon knowing there were a few shops that would be a good
fit for my product. During these initial phone conversations, I asked to speak
to the person who did the purchasing for the company. Once on the line, I
introduced myself and my product, letting them know that I had an item I
thought they might be interested in. I would then ask to set up a time to stop
by the shop with samples. Three out of five business I visited that weekend
placed orders, and some continue to. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
While that first step felt more like a shove out of a plane,
it has paid off in many ways. Contacting new shops no longer causes me to have
an upset stomach. For me, it’s never been easy putting myself or my product out
there…especially in a situation where it has to be judged, but it <i>has</i> gotten less nerve racking. So, if
you make something special that others are telling you you’d be crazy not to
sell…Sell It! Go for it! Stop making excuses and pick up the phone. </div>
